Paglia Series 80% New Zealand Wool Soumak Handwoven Living Room Rug – Ivory (Natural Mélange)
The Paglia Series Handwoven Rug is a collection woven from a blend of 80% New Zealand wool and 20% cotton using the traditional Soumak technique. The natural softness of New Zealand wool combines with the durable, textured surface of the Soumak technique to create an eye-catching, natural aesthetic in spaces such as living rooms and sitting rooms. With an 8 mm pile height and a weight of 3100 g/m², it provides a dense, balanced, and long-lasting structure. The natural temperature-regulating properties of wool fibers keep you warm in winter while providing a cool sensation in summer. This variant features a natural and bright appearance in warm ivory-cream tones with subtle mélange lines.
What Is New Zealand Wool?
New Zealand wool is one of the highest-quality natural wool types in the world. Obtained from sheep raised in New Zealand's clean pastures and favorable climate, this wool is known for its long, fine, and lustrous fibers. It is naturally soft, durable, moisture-balancing, and resistant to retaining dirt. Thanks to the natural lanolin in its structure, it resists retaining unpleasant odors and is easy to clean. Wool fiber is also a natural temperature regulator; by absorbing and balancing moisture, it keeps you warm in winter while providing a cool and comfortable feeling in summer, making it an ideal indoor rug for year-round use. In the Paglia Series, 80% New Zealand wool combines with 20% cotton foundation yarn and the handwoven Soumak technique to create a surface that is both warm and soft, as well as durable and long-lasting.
What Is the Soumak Knot?
Soumak is one of the deep-rooted weaving techniques of Anatolia and the Caucasus, with a history spanning centuries. In this technique, pattern yarns are individually wrapped around the foundation (warp) yarns, creating a dense, distinctive textured surface unlike that of knotted rugs. The wrapping method leaves the back of the rug as neat and clean as the front, making Soumak weaving durable and unique. The horizontal striped, basket-like appearance on the surface also comes from this special technique. In the Paglia Series, the Soumak technique combines with a dense wool weave reaching an 8 mm thickness, offering both a natural, understated aesthetic and a soft, sturdy foundation. Thanks to traditional craftsmanship, each rug has its own unique texture and character.

How Should a New Zealand Wool Rug Be Cleaned?
Paglia Series wool rugs should only be cleaned by professional rug-cleaning companies. Since natural wool fibers can be affected by water and excessive moisture, washing at home, machine washing, or wet cleaning is not recommended. For daily care, use a low-suction vacuum cleaner and gently dab any potential stains with a slightly damp cloth to preserve the rug's softness and natural texture for a long time.

Protect Your Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven and natural-fiber creations that add value to your living space for generations, you should adopt a careful maintenance routine.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid is spilled, timing is the most critical factor. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth and never rubbing, gently blot the liquid from the surface. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural lay of the fibers). Rubbing can damage the structure of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If you are unsure, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuum cleaners and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the reaction of natural fibers to light and prevent localized tone differences (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Noble materials such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For deep cleaning, seek assistance only from professional rug-care centers specializing in natural fibers.
