The Story of This Rug
The Khorjin (saddlebag) design originates from a nomadic weaving tradition that stretches from the Caucasus to Anatolia and then to eastern Iran. Each vertical stripe is embellished with small stars, diamonds, and floral motifs, as if bearing the signature of a different tribe. This composition, refined in Shirvan and Akstafa rugs, has been brought to life once again on naturally dyed wool through the "Chobi" revival carried on in Afghan workshops today.
Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug
- Each rug is made by a single weaving team; an identical reproduction is impossible.
- 100% Ghazni sheep's wool resists staining thanks to its natural lanolin and develops a patina over the years.
- Unlike synthetic colors, natural root and bark dyes soften and mellow over time.
- The asymmetric Persian knot creates a dense and durable weave.
- The natural washed finish gives the rug an antique texture and a soft hand.
Color and Pattern
Vertical stripes in golden yellow, indigo blue, ivory, walnut, and dark green tones are arranged at even intervals on a deep red ground. Each stripe contains tiny stars, floral motifs, diamonds, and hooked motifs. A border composition of palmette and rosette chains frames the design, while the corner sections are highlighted in madder red.
Care Recommendations
- Clean once a week with a low-powered vacuum without a brush attachment.
- Blot stains gently with a damp white cloth; do not rub.
- Have it inspected by a professional rug cleaner every 3–4 years.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight and use a rug pad.
As a numbered original artwork, this rug is a one-of-a-kind piece bearing the weaver's signature.

Protect Your Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven and natural-fiber creations that add value to your living space for generations, you should adopt a careful maintenance routine.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid is spilled, timing is the most critical factor. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth and never rubbing, gently blot the liquid from the surface. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural lay of the fibers). Rubbing can damage the structure of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If you are unsure, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuum cleaners and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the reaction of natural fibers to light and prevent localized tone differences (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Noble materials such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For deep cleaning, seek assistance only from professional rug-care centers specializing in natural fibers.
